Learning From the Master

This week we will be looking at the sermon on the mount. We will concentrate ourselves on chapter 7, verses 13-23 this morning and tonight. Then this coming Wednesday, for our coordinated devotional, we will consider verses 24-27 as our focus. I am hoping you will join us in studying all these words of Jesus.

There are important matters for you to hear from your Master in the sermon he preached 2000 years ago. Some try to make this an issue of history, rather than a place for application to be made. Treating the words of Jesus as if they have no present bearing would be a mistake. Remember the words he spoke in John 12, “There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them on the last day. I know that this command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say” (48-50).

The words he is talking about, are all of his words, and today’s section of this sermon is absolutely in view. We will be judged by these words, so let’s understand them. Let’s see what Jesus wants from us. And make up your mind that you will be the first to put into practice what we learn from our Master.
