Paul was chosen to be sent to the Gentiles, but it was Peter that opened the door that first time, in the home of Cornelius (Acts 10).

Peter did something that was "against his law" (Acts 10.28). He went to the home of the Gentile man in agreement with what the Spirit had told him (Acts 10.20). Upon arriving, there were many gathered to "listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us" (Acts 10.33). Because Peter spoke the words, these people obeyed and were "baptized (in water) in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 10.47-48).

We too are sent into the world to teach people what God desires for them to do. We are called to visit homes, and talk to people on the street, and lead people to Jesus at our businesses. There are all these people living in, and around, this marvelous community....let's take the good news of Christ to them so that, just like Cornelius, they and possibly their whole household, may come to know the power and glory of our King and Lord, Jesus Christ.

In Acts 11 Peter comes back to the church and tells his story....of how God had been at work. Who will have a story to tell at the end of this week?

Desire. This is what we all have. The call of Jesus is to learn to no longer be mastered by those ungodly desires. Listen to what James writes, "Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin" (James 1.15).

Desire has a baby and its name is sin. Desire has a grandson and its name is sin. Desire has, like any other thing, a need to reproduce itself. Humans reproduce other humans, but desire conceives sin. She bears forth a son, and it is sin.

Think of how reckless she is. She has lead you to do unspeakable things in your life, and yet we would treat her as a "friend"? Never! Those desires that are against God are desires God hates. What God hates, we must learn to hate, even if we have allowed these desires to become like an old friend to us.

Desires of the flesh lead to sin and so they must be put in check. Restrained. They must be replaced with desires for the things of God. That is a work only your God can do. Only he is able to make it so that you no longer desire the wicked things. This is why it is so important for us to be seeking God's help in our lives. Learn to control your ungodly desires with the help of your God.

Welcome to our Friends and Family Day! We are so glad that you have taken time to be here with us!

We consider ourselves to be a very close family here and we are delighted when more of our friends become part of our family here through the adoption that comes through Christ Jesus. This is the story of God's grace and love. This love causes God to delight in his people...the subject of today's sermon.

We hope that your time with us will be uplifting to you, and encouraging to you. We want you to feel like you have been in God's presence, as we will be trying to see God for all that He is. We want you to be able to see God too, and to be overwhelmed, just like we are, by His incredible love and mercy.

We will be eating together after our services and we would love for you to stay and be our guest today! There will be plenty for you and your family.

We are proud you are here, and we have many reasons to be thankful to God. You being here with us is one reason we are filled with joy and gratitude.

We are very blessed to have Andrew and Joy with us. This church prayed and sought our God's help in finding, and bringing, us a minister and his wife that would come and work with us in building our families. The work they have assigned to themselves is difficult and requires dedication. They have taken things in stride and become a working part of this family already.

We are thankful to God that they are here with us, and working with us. If you have not noticed, the place where the kids sit is growing and not only are these young people coming in greater number, but they are bonding together. Older teens and those recently graduated have been encouraged to share their lives with those who are younger.

There are things happening at LCHS, at the annex, at their home, in the homes of our members and even in other cities, and it is creating an atmosphere where our kids feel needed, close and growing in their service to God.

This coming Sunday night we will have our evening services conducted by our young men and we need to be here in support of those young men. Make your plans to be with your family that night.

May God bless us as we continue to seek his kingdom.

We rejoice with the Angels in Heaven that Matt, Tasha, Mattie and Samuel Adams were baptized into the body of Christ, Sunday evening, October 9th. Yesterday, October 16th, two more souls became members of the Lord's church. Joey Gervais was baptized before evening service and Buddy Burchell was baptized around 11:00 pm.
